My Right Foot eats Chocolate Mousse Cake at The Chef

It's always nice to find a place where you can chill out, have great cappuccinos and freshly baked pastries and the like. The Chef Bakery in Richmond, right next to Melville, is unpretentious and all the better for it. One warning though, do NOT under any circumstances ask for fried eggs. You will be escorted off the premises according to the menu, but they will do omelettes and "strangled" eggs. The Chef, Stuart McClarty, is allowed to have his foibles I guess.
I found this quote from The Times:
The smallish shop, painted bubble-gum pink, is wrapped around a corner of the delightfully un chi-chi Menton Road near Melville, a breadroll’s throw from the Bohemian (one of the oldest and seediest drinking holes on this side of town), so it’s certainly not drawing the crowds through its glam location. But draw them it does. It’s developed a cult-type following, with the designers, actors and media types who favour this side of town, hunched over coffees, running back to their workplace with bags of croissants or recovering from hangovers over scrambled eggs at pavement tables in the sun.
The Chef, 17 Menton Road, Richmond, 011 482 1883, weekdays 6.30am-5pm, Saturdays 7am-1pm
